11th September

Classic Game Room HD reviews GIGA WING for Sega Dreamcast from Capcom released in 2000. This vertical scrolling SHMUP on the Sega Dreamcast has awesome gameplay that’s easy to pick up and play. Rack up a massive multiplyer by wasting thousands of enemy space ships and airplanes with four different weapon packed characters. One or two player gameplay rounds out this affordable and exiting Dreamcast shooter. Giga Wing is a space ship shoot ‘em up where you shoot enemies, power up your guns and reflect shots back at your opponents to rack up multiplyer points and earn an astronomical score. This CGR review of Giga Wing has gameplay from Giga Wing on Sega Dreamcast, which was originally released in the arcades. Giga Wing is one of many SHMUPS on the Dreamcast, but is it the best?

Classic Game Room HD CHARGE ‘N BLAST for Sega Dreamcast review

9th September

Classic Game Room HD reviews CHARGE ‘N BLAST for Sega Dreamcast from 2000! Aliens, meteors and insects oh my! Its your job to charge and blast them with immobile suites that move left and right. This CGR review of Charge N Blast for Sega Dreamcast has gameplay from this science fiction arcade shooter which has some very unique gameplay and bizarre enemies. Waste lizard men, Godzilla-knockoff monster and hordes of meteor bugs with three characters (theres unlockable characters when you beat each difficulty level). Play one or two players on screen at the same time. The challenging part of Charge N Blast is mastering a very odd control scheme where you move left and right, charge and blast. It sounds simple but gets increasingly more difficulty as the game progresses. Charge N Blast has some serious cheesy, campy sci-fi charm and is so bad at times its good. Dialog is awful, animations are terrible but the lizard people are awesome! Each character in the game has a little description of their personality in the instruction manual which is ever so helpful when charging and blasting aliens monsters for reasons unknown. This game was released for the Sega Dreamcast video game console in 2000 and is easy to find and collect today. The biggest flaw in the game is a lack of aim inversion when shooting.

Classic Game Room HD – DEFENDER for Atari 5200 review

9th June

Classic Game Room HD reviews DEFENDER for Atari 5200. This Eugene Jarvis classic arcade game is one of the best in the world, how does it work on the Atari 5200? CGRHD review of Defender has gameplay footage recorded from Atari 5200 showing the space ship in Defender during game play. Defender is an old school, horizontally scrolling SHMUP style game where you fight off enemies and save humans before they are captured and turned into mutants. What fun! The Atari 5200 has multiple buttons (unlike Atari 2600) allowing players to shoot, drop smart bombs and hyperspace! Classic Game Room HD reviews Atari 5200 video game cartridges as a retro reviewer reviewing Atari 5200 video games from the early 1980’s.

Classic Game Room HD – DIG DUG for Atari 5200 review

7th June

Classic Game Room HD reviews DIG DUG for Atari 5200. This 1982 Namco classic has a fine converstion for the Atari 5200 video game console and plays very well. It is extremely similar to the Atari 7800 game cartridge in fact. This CGRHD review of Dig Dug for Atari 5200 has gameplay footage from Dig Dug being played on Atari 5200. See our hero dig and dug while pumping enemies full of air and exploding them underground. Dig Dug should see a remake in 3D with first person shooter style and flamethrowers. Namco? Yes, we’re asking for it. Dig Dug ault 3D Megaslayer. Classic Game Room HD loves Dig Dug and other 1980’s coin-op classics. While the Atari 5200 has its share of disasters, Dig Dug is not one of them. This is a really nice video game that should belong in your colection of old school 5200 games. I’d still prefer the classic Dig Dug arcade machine though…

Classic Game Room HD – IKARI WARRIORS for NES review

28th May

Classic Game Room HD reviews IKARI WARRIORS from SNK for the Nintendo Entertainment System NES. This 1986 version of the arcade masterpiece is bright, loud, shooty and it’s Ikari Warriors! You can almost see the sweat on the beefcakes running through the jungle machine gunning mindless waves of enemies. Take command of tanks, helicopters and foot power as you shoot and destroy everything that moves. Play with a friend for 2 player co-op gameplay. This Ikari Warrios review has gameplay footage from the NES game cartridge, Ikari Warriors showing game play from the Nintendo Entertainment System. Classic Game Room HD reviews NES games as a retro reviewer reviewing classic NES carts like Ikari Warriors from 1986. Old school shooting awesomeness. With other SNK titles like King of Fighters being released today, will Ikari Warriors be remade for the PS3 Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 XBLA any time soon? We need a modern remake of Ikari Warriors with Robotron style controls! This Ikari Warriors arcade machine had a very unique rotating joystick design, too bad the NES version does not.

Classic Game Room HD – STAR TREK DAC for Xbox 360 review

20th May

Classic Game Room HD reviews STAR TREK DAC for XBLA Xbox 360 Live Arcade. This Star Trek DAC video game review has gameplay from Star Trek DAC in HD from XBLA. Released to coincide with the new Universal Pictures movie, Star Trek, this game has surprisingly little to do with Star Trek. It is an excellent arcade style multiplayer shooter game like Asteroids meets deathmatch though. Take command of any of three Federation (or Romulan) vessels like the flagship, bomber and fighter then duke it out in DAC (deathmatch, ault and conquest). Play over XBLA Xbox Live Arcade or fight in a single player mode by yourself against computer AI. Star Trek D.A.C. is simple, straight forward, addictive and fun. It lacks the depth of the Star Trek universe but excels at that simple, clever game play that many other Star Trek video games lacked in years past. Star Trek DAC is a worthy purchase for fans of arcade style space ship shooters with a multiplayer, deathmatch, ault and conquest twist. Classic Game Room HD reviews Star Trek video games as a Trekkie reviewing games reviewer previously by Trekkers like Star Trek! KAHN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

15th May

Classic Game Room HD reviews iDRACULA for iPod Touch and iPhone. This CGRHD review has iDRACULA gameplay footage recorded in high definition HD video showing iDRACULA game play in full i-awesome effect. This video game is reminiscent of the arcade masterpiece called ROBOTRON 2084. Like SMASH TV though, you pick up weapon and health upgrades like miniguns, flamethrowers and grenade launchers. Blast the undead, zombies, wolves and monsters into bits and earn high scores in the classic video game inspired iPod app called iDRACULA! It uses the iPod touch screen to act as Robotron-style controls where you drive with the left “stick” and shoot with the right. Excellent graphics, smooth motion and terriffic sound round out the package and make this one of the best iPod iTunes store app video games out there, iPod’s own iDRACULA! I be blastin’ muthatrucka’s with iDRACULA in three different environments with four different gameplay modes. Look, it’s this simple folks… do you have an iPhone or iPod touch? This Galaxian review has gameplay footage recorded from Galaxian on Atari 5200. Galaxian is an arcade video game coin-op classic and the prequel to Galaga. This Atari 5200 cartridge is affordable to collect today and can be found quite easily on places like eBay. Galaxian is a Space Invaders style game where you shoot aliens swooping down on you from above. Blast them out of the air for more points and save your shots to pick off the red and yellow ones. Galaxian is fast paced and challenging due to the wild attack patterns that are difficult to predict. Galaxian is also available on Atari 2600 and comes on numerous Namco compilation game releases for Playstation and other game consoles.
