My advice is to try close-embrace Argentine tango. It is simple but extremely subtle and it takes a long time to get the hang of it. But it's worth it, because it is the most beautiful, amazing dance that was ever invented. Look for Tete Rusconi, Ricardo Vidort, or Ruben Harymbat on YouTube. It may not look like much, but the invisible stuff within the embrace, and the music, is all that matters.

I danced salsa for about 5 years and got to the point where I felt like I had done all the turns I could ever need, and started looking for something else. I encountered tango and I have been at it ever since. That was about 10 years ago. I am still learning something new about tango all the time.

Be aware that ballroom tango (American or International) is very different from Argentine tango! Ballroom tango is loud, garish, and exaggerated, and the music is awful.
References :
Salsa. Definitely.

Salsa is a much simpler dance and is much easier to pick up for a beginner. Plus, it's more widlely known and you can go to salsa clubs and dance it socially much easier.

The tango, and any ballroom dance, is a very sophisticated and difficult dance, it's actually a challenge to avoid stepping on your partner and learning the posture and technique. I'm not sure how quickly you'll pick it up, but I think you'll enjoy salsa a lot more.
References :
Dance experience

Do you have to choose? I'm taking ballroom right now and we learn a lot of different ballroom and Latin dances. You could try to find a studio that has both. If you really want an opinion on which you should take, I personally like Salsa better just because I think it's more fun. But you should do whichever one you want to do.
