You won't be able to teach yourself, especially from watching. Your best bet is to try to mooch free "lessons" from experienced amateurs. The part of partner dancing that you see, the figures, are the least important part. Proper technique is all but invisible to the beginner.

Hi, you could search some videos on Youtube … but if you want step by step guides that could help you through the process and go over the right techniques, don’t be scared to spend some money. There is a big difference in the techniques offered by professionals, rather than freebies on other video sites.

I learned Salsa from http://letslearndancing.com/How-to-learn-salsa-dance and it was really good. After I learned the dance, I was able to watch salsa videos on Youtube and really understand who is doing what. I was actually able to see other people’s mistakes too …

You really cannot learn to dance online. You need corrections and no video can do that. Take a few dance lessons.

Don't know if it has a name but I believe it comes form tango originally and has been adapted to salsa.
